Bmw I9 – The i8 has been described by the automotive press as a hybrid revelation. But it seems we haven’t seen anything yet.
Our source is now confirming what we reported earlier. The BMW board has approved a new car for BMW in the i9. The car was planned for spring 2016 in celebration of BMW’s centenary.

According to these sources the i9 will use i8 carbon fiber as its base. Reusing the structure and other off-the-shelf components will allow BMW to rapidly develop the car for the 2016 on-sale date. The hybrid unit will be the same design, but with a more powerful electric motor and a new gasoline engine that puts the inline six at its heart. Producing more than 500 hp combined, the revised power plant helps make the i9 the fastest BMW ever built.
Bmw Plans Hot I9 As Part Of 2016 Centenary
The six-door lineup will debut early next year with the new 7 Series, which will eventually make its way into BMW’s lineup.
Outside of the new i9, BMWi will expand its lineup in the coming years with the i5 sedan and the long-wheelbase i3.
Look for the first prototype images to appear later this year and early next as BMW accelerates development of the new car.

The new model, called the i9, uses the same engine as the i8, but is more aggressive, with a bigger engine and a more powerful electric motor.
The engine is believed to be a new 3.0-litre six-cylinder unit, which appears to be in development and debuts in the 7-Series replacement.
The next model to join BMW’s sub-brand is the i9. The i5, a stretched version of the BMW i3, is also planned.
The current i8 uses a three-cylinder 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with an electric motor. Total power is rated at 357bhp with 420lb ft.

BMW confirmed on Monday that its flagship iNext in 2021 will be a “technological landmark” as the vehicle combines the latest technologies in electric components, self-driving capabilities and user interface systems.
Being a supercar, the iNext is likely to be branded as the i9 when it hits the market or the iX9 if it gets an SUV body style. The current iNext reference is just a code name.
The Bmw I8 Roadster Costs £125k
Currently the highest-end car from BMW’s sub-brand is the i8 plug-in hybrid sports car. The iNext is a very advanced car so it is expected to top the i8.
The iNext is the first BMW to offer the engine’s 5th generation batteries, which can travel more than 400 miles on a single charge.
It is also one of the first vehicles in the world to offer Level 4 self-driving capability. A Level 4 driver can take his eyes off the road for long periods of time in certain situations, such as on the highway, and the car will silently shut down on its own if the driver doesn’t back off from his direction.
In terms of future user interface systems, BMW highlighted the possibilities with the Inside Future program unveiled in January at the 2017 Consumer Electronics Show. The concept features a hologram-based interface where the driver makes aerial gestures with their hand movements and is tracked by cameras with visual feedback sent via ultrasound.
Bmw Supercar Not Possible Due To Lack Of Resources
Production of the iNext takes place at BMW’s main plant in Dingolfing, Germany. The Vision Next 100 concept was unveiled in 2016 to celebrate BMW’s centenary of some iNext design concepts.

A BMW i9 is in the works, a more serious version of the i8.
Why Bmw Needs A 9 Series Coupe
The German magazine also said that 2016 is BMW’s 100th anniversary year. Special branding befits a special car and the BMW i9 surpasses the i8 in many ways.
For starters, it makes more power than the i8 thanks to a larger six-cylinder engine and a more powerful electric motor. The i8 currently uses a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder and two electric motors for an output of 357 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque. There’s no word on whether it’ll be a straight-six or a V-6, though the former is a challenger in mid-range configuration.
The i9 weighs more than the i8 due to its powerful electronics, though BMW tries to shed those pounds and maintain better weight distribution with more carbon fiber and carbon fiber. Auto Motor and Sport claims the i9 will sprint from 0-62 mph in under four seconds, which should be as fast or slightly faster than the i8.
The i8 looks great, but the BMW i9 stands out by taking design cues from the iconic M1. It’s more expensive than the i8, which currently starts at $136,625. Do you think the i9 is the perfect vehicle to celebrate BMW’s 100th anniversary? Let us know in the comments below.

According to Auto Motor und Sport, the company will create an “über-i8” called the i9; Hyundai no longer uses the same nameplate for its entry-level hatch as BMW has on the i10 badge.
The i9 is said to feature an updated version of the plug-in hybrid powertrain used in the i8 (pictured above and below). Not only does the i9 have a more powerful electric motor, but the i8’s turbocharged three-cylinder engine has been swapped for a six-cylinder motor.
The i9 is a more taxing set of motoring scales and power outputs are yet to be determined, with the i9 sprinting from 0-100km/h in under four seconds.
Rumor: Bmw To Create A High Performance I9 Hybrid For Its Centenary
In comparison, the i8’s plug-in hybrid system has a 96kW/250N electric motor powering the front wheels and a 170kW/320Nm 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine feeding the rear wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission. All in all, the i8 r has a total power output of 266kW.
