The models, which gain longer range and more efficient batteries, will carry the Q8 nameplate to position them as the brand’s new flagship SUV.

In addition to technological upgrades to their drivetrains, the two electric-powered SUVs receive a series of subtle changes in exterior and interior styling.

The range remains the same, starting from £67,800 for the entry-level e-tron Q8 50 Quattro Sport (plus £2500 in Sportback form).

Styling changes to the three-year-old car include a new-look grille featuring Audi’s two-dimensional ring emblem and electronically modified cooling ducts. It is set within a reprofiled bumper and marked by headlights with new functions, including an orientation light for country roads and a lane light with a direction indicator. At the rear, there are new tail-light graphics and a revised bumper.

Inside, Audi’s electric SUVs get recycled upholstery and trim options in a mildly revised cabin that also includes changes to the multimedia interface (MMI). The system comes standard with MMI Navigation Plus as well as the so-called e-tron route planner.

The upgraded drivelines use a revised electric motor with lower current and lower power consumption under steady cruising conditions.

As before, the 50 and 55 models of the SUV (the latter starting at £77,800) use two asynchronous motors (one at the front, one at the back) while the more powerful S variant is continue with an additional third motor at the back. .

Power and torque increase to 335bhp and 489lb ft for the 50 model but remain the same for the 55, which offers 396bhp and 489lb ft.

Luxury Class Comfort: Interior Design

Further changes focus on the battery, which continues to operate at 400V. Audi says that a more advanced cell intake and a new battery management system increase the energy density of the battery pack by up to 20%. A modified stacking process with modified electrode placement is also said to increase overall energy efficiency.

With its redesigned 89kWh lithium ion battery, the UK versions of the e-tron 50 and e-tron Sportback 50 achieve provisional ranges of 281 miles and 290 miles respectively in the WLTP test cycle . The larger 104kWh unit in the e-tron 55 and e-tron Sportback 55 offer individual ranges of 330 miles and 343 miles. The same battery in the SQ8 returns 284 miles in the conventional SUV and 295 miles in the Sportback.

Up to 11kW is charged on an AC system and either 150kW (E-tron 50 and E-tron Sportback 50) or 170kW on a DC system.

The name change from Audi e-tron to Audi Q8 e-tron has also given the car a bigger battery and a significant increase in range. However, the new e-tron Q8 moniker doesn’t change the car’s core features; It’s still quiet, comfortable and beautifully built, as well as all the latest technology.

The e-tron Q8 is practical, with plenty of room for the family and all their luggage, albeit without the seven-seat option and surprisingly less boot space than the pre-facelift model. But despite the improvements on paper, Audi’s luxury electric SUV can’t match the range of key rivals such as the BMW iX, nor is it particularly practical in the real world.

The e-tron was Audi’s first electric production car and one of the first electric SUVs on the market, although it was beaten by the Tesla Model X and Jaguar i-Pace in UK showrooms. But things have come a long way since 2019, with the flagship electric SUV renamed the Q8 e-tron, now one of a rapidly growing range of electric Audis that includes the e saloon – the impressive tron GT and the e-tron Q4. and C4 The E-tron Sportback is a family SUV. A larger e-tron Q6 SUV, e-tron A6 saloon and e-tron A6 Avant estate are also coming soon.

The range of luxury electric SUVs has also grown in recent years, with the e-tron Q8’s closest competitors being the Jaguar I-Pace and Tesla Model X, BMW iX,  Mercedes EQC and the new EQE SUV. However, there are more on the horizon, such as the Lotus Eletre, Volvo EX90 and Polestar 3.

The e-tron Q8 slots between the Q5 and Q7 in terms of size and interior space, and although its styling is fairly conservative, it’s easily recognizable as a member of the Audi SUV family. Of course, if you don’t mind losing a bit of boot space, the e-tron Q8 Sportback (formerly e-tron Sportback) is offered with the same trim levels and powertrains as the regular SUV, but with a slightly more fashionable coupe- esque slop because the roof line is a little more aerodynamic.

Speaking of Audi’s big electric running gear, as well as its new name, the Q8 e-tron gets more power and a bigger capacity battery pack as part of its facelift. There are three powertrains to choose from, starting with the entry-level Q8 e-tron 50, which gets a pair of electric motors for quattro all-wheel drive and a 95kWh battery (89kWh usable).

Audi Q8 E-tron

The mid-range e-tron Q8 gets a power boost of 55 and a bigger 114kWh battery (106kWh usable). The maximum charging speed for this version also goes from 150kW to 170kW, so despite the larger battery, it still takes about half an hour to top it up from 10 to 80 percent.

First News Of The Audi Q8 E Tron

Finally, replacing the e-tron S is the e-tron SQ8, available in SUV and Sportback guises. It uses three electric motors (just like Tesla’s Model X Plate) to produce 496bhp and 973Nm of torque and is powered by the same battery as the Q8 e-tron 55. Being a high powered version without emphasizing power, the efficiency, the electric range is surprisingly reduced.

There are five trim levels available for the e-tron Q8 – Sport, S Line, Black Edition, Versprung and e-tron SQ8 – with prices starting from around £67,000 for the regular SUV, while the coupe-SUV An equivalent Sportback costs around £2,500 more. All models get 20-inch (or larger) alloy wheels, LED matrix lighting, a power-operated tailgate and adaptive air suspension, as well as dual-zone climate control, Audi’s Virtual Cockpit digital instrument display and the company’s MMI infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity

The Audi Q8 e-tron is definitely one of the most refined electric SUVs out there, and it’s really fun to drive. However, there are more efficient electric cars in the class with greater overall range.

Since the performance of the Audi Q8 e-tron is quite poor, we would recommend going for the 55 version with the largest battery capacity and the fastest charging speed to facilitate long journeys. We’d also recommend the entry-level Sport because it has the best electric range thanks to its smaller wheels.
